“Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness.”
― Brené Brown
Taking the step to start therapy requires courage and vulnerability – valuable strengths that have brought you here and that will continue to support you in your healing journey. I believe at the core of healing lies vulnerability and connection. My goal is for our work together to be a healing connection – to be a collaborative and creative process, working towards your goals. I believe through therapy, we can reconnect with ourselves and develop an understanding of the needs behind our behaviors and feelings, to ultimately meet those needs in healthier and more effective ways.
In therapy, I work to create a space that is warm and empowering, while also authentic and challenging. My therapeutic style is grounded in humanistic, person-centered, and social-justice theory and approaches. I strive to emphasize the here-and-now and meet my clients where they are, with respect for each person’s individual experiences and strengths. I have experience working with adolescents and adults from various cultural backgrounds, ages, sexualities, and gender expressions, with various goals, trauma histories, and diagnoses. My professional interests include intergenerational healing, the impact of marginalization on health, LGBTQ identities and experiences, inner child work, and the use of expressive arts in healing.
As Natalie Rogers said, “What is creative is frequently therapeutic. What is therapeutic is frequently a creative process.” In therapy, I encourage the use of art, with a focus not on artistic skill, but on deepening and building on the creative nature of the therapeutic process itself. I have specialized training in the use of art in therapy, but am likewise experienced in talk therapy alone. I welcome any questions you may have about the use of art in therapy! Feel free to reach out if you would like to schedule an appointment or consultation to see if we are a good fit.
