“As my sufferings mounted I soon realized that there were two ways in which I could respond to my situation – either to react with bitterness or seek to transform the suffering into a creative force. I decided to follow the latter course.”

– Martin Luther King

I believe everyone has the capacity to get better, to heal. We are resilient beings and can bounce back from anything. I started Bardstown Health and Healing for people like you. My purpose in life is to help and heal others. We all have things that we suffer from and struggle with and something without knowing it.

My team’s purpose at Bardstown Health and Healing is to provide high-quality counseling and therapy with the vision of people getting well. We are more than our illness and the labels we have. I specialize in treating trauma and addiction and work with a variety of issues such as anxiety and depression.

My approach is firm and compassionate while being gentle when needed. I have made this my purpose, to help others. I have endured plenty of suffering myself in life. I think suffering is part of what helps us find ourselves and the life we desire. I am certified in EMDR and Transactional Analysis. I work with mostly adults, couples, and families. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

“It takes courage… to endure the sharp pains of self discovery rather than choose to take the dull pain of unconsciousness that would last the rest of our lives.”

– Marianne Willimason

It’s often hard to steer through the never-ending changes in life. Stress, grief, trauma, depression, and anxiety show up emotionally and physically and can interfere with your everyday life and may even cause you to avoid making decisions or prevent you from moving forward. Sometimes you just need a soft place to land. Talking to friends and family is helpful but having a safe space and a non-biased person to process thoughts and feelings is invaluable to one’s health and well-being. Recognizing the need for help is the first step towards relief. Learning how stressors affect you will allow you to find ways to handle it.

It takes trial and error to discover what works best for you. I always tell people to shop for a therapist like you shop for a doctor, dentist, or even a favorite grocery store. The person-therapist relationship can be just as important on the road to wellness as the therapist’s education and experience.

The core of my practice centers around an empathetic, non-judgmental safe space for families, couples, adults, adolescents, and children. I believe that you are the expert in your own life. I am looking forward to working together as a team to move towards you goal.

“Better is better.”

If you’re even searching for a therapist, you’ve started the process. Your gut tells you life isn’t what you need it to be but you’re not sure how to make it better. You’re right about counseling: it truly can help. In therapy, the therapist and the client work as a team to accomplish goals. You may be unsure of those goals. I can help you figure out what they are and how to make progress.

I’m a certified Choice Theory/Reality Therapy counselor. What does this mean for you? It means I view life from a perspective of individual needs. When these needs are not met, we may feel depressed, anxious, stressed, or easily distracted. In counseling, we work on identifying these needs as well as how to meet them. I also incorporate DBT techniques.

I firmly believe everyone can make healthy changes, though our minds might convince us we can’t. If you feel the need to change something in your life but don’t know where to start, counseling can help.
