Art therapy is a powerful and experiential approach to healing that allows insight and change to emerge through creativity—not conversation alone. You don’t need to be an artist to benefit. The focus isn’t on how your art looks, but on what the creative process reveals and releases.

This method helps clients move beyond words, often uncovering emotions, memories, and clarity that traditional talk therapy can’t always reach. Art therapy can support healing for trauma, burnout, grief, addiction, anxiety, and more.

Sessions may involve painting, collage, sculpting, or other creative forms—each designed to help you reconnect with yourself in new and restorative ways.

Our licensed art therapist works with children, teens, and adults, offering private sessions that promote expression, balance, and growth. If you’ve outgrown traditional therapy or want a deeper way to heal, art therapy offers a new path forward.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

At Louisville Health & Healing, EMDR therapy helps you process and release the memories, sensations, and emotions that keep you stuck. Using gentle bilateral stimulation (BLS), EMDR supports your brain’s natural ability to heal from painful experiences — including trauma, loss, betrayal, and other unresolved events that continue to impact daily life.

When the past remains unprocessed, it can interfere with being fully present. Flashbacks, nightmares, or sudden emotional waves often arise “out of nowhere.” EMDR helps calm these responses, reducing the intensity of thoughts and emotions in the moment while creating lasting change.

Our therapists are fully trained and certified in EMDR and integrate this powerful approach for a wide range of concerns — from PTSD and anxiety to burnout, grief, and performance blocks. Together, we’ll identify the experiences that need healing, create a clear target plan, and work through each step with safety, presence, and precision.

EMDR doesn’t just reduce distress — it changes how your mind stores and responds to memories. Clients often describe feeling lighter, clearer, and more grounded, able to move forward without being defined by the past.

Trauma is a deeply personal response to distressing experiences that overwhelm our ability to cope. Whether it stems from a single event or years of chronic stress, trauma can change how the brain and body process safety, trust, and connection. Many people experience lasting effects long after the event is over — intrusive memories, anxiety, nightmares, difficulty concentrating, or a sense of emotional numbness.

At Louisville Health & Healing, our trauma therapists specialize in helping you safely process and release what’s been held inside for too long. We treat both acute and complex trauma, including childhood abuse, neglect, loss, medical trauma, and experiences of violence or betrayal. Using evidence-based and integrative approaches such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), IFS (Internal Family Systems), and expressive therapies, we help clients restore balance, regulation, and meaning.

Common trauma symptoms we address include:

  • Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive thoughts

  • Emotional reactivity or detachment

  • Chronic anxiety or hypervigilance

  • Difficulty trusting or maintaining relationships

  • Physical symptoms like tension, insomnia, or fatigue

Healing from trauma isn’t about erasing the past — it’s about transforming how it lives within you. Our private-pay trauma therapy offers the confidentiality, pace, and depth needed to create lasting change. With compassionate guidance, you can reclaim your sense of safety, strength, and self.
